西洋では美と愛の象徴として古来より人々を魅了してきた薔薇。日本では、明治維新を迎え、西洋の文化が日本に多く伝えられるようになると、様々な品種が栽培されるようになり、華やかな新しい時代の到来を告げる象徴となりました。

Bara (Rose)

In the west, the rose has charmed people as a symbol of beauty and love for ages. As for Japan, it was largely not until the Meiji Restoration of 1868, when western culture began to flow more rapidly into Japan, that Japan came into contact with non-Japanese plant species. Thus, the rose became a symbol of the coming of a spectacular new age.
