秋草に蝶

秋の七草として知られる撫子、桔梗、女郎花と、その周りを舞う蝶たちを描いた文様。蝶は中国で「ディエ」と読み、80歳を表す言葉と同じ音のため、長寿の象徴とされています。また、つがいで仲睦まじく飛ぶ姿から夫婦円満の意味も持つ、縁起の良い文様です。

Akikusa ni Cho (Butterflies on autumn flowers)

A pattern depicting nadeshiko, kikyo, and ominaeshi, known as the seven flowers of autumn, as well as butterflies flying around them. The word for butterfly is pronounced as “dee-eh” in China and as it shares the same sound as the word representing 80 years old, it is seen as a symbol of longevity. Also, the sight of butterflies happily flying around in pairs has also made them associated with a happily married couple, making this an auspicious pattern.
