「雪華と梅」

雪華と梅

江戸時代後期に雪の結晶が観察されたことにより、様々な雪の結晶文様が作られました。「雪華」の文様は、雪の結晶を花に見立てて意匠化したものです。そんな雪華と、百花に先駆け寒中に咲き、芳香を放つ梅とを描いたこの文様には、春の訪れを願う気持ちが表現されています。

Sekka to Ume （“Snow Flower” and Plum Blossoms) 

Various snowflake patterns were created due to observations of snowflakes made during the Edo Period. The “Snow Flower” design is a pattern likening snowflakes to flowers. These “Snow Flower” and plum blossoms, which bloom fragrantly in the cold of winter and precede many other flowers, express the desire for the arrival of spring.
