Ume ni Onagadori (Plum Blossoms and Long-Tailed Fowls)

The plum blossom is the first of all varieties of flowers that goes into full bloom and giving off its fragrance in mid-winter. Accordingly, it has come to be regarded as a flower of good omen from ancient times. An “Onagadori” is an imaginary bird. So we used birds that have long tails like the copper pheasant and wagtail as models in designing an ideal form for the “Onagadori”. This is an elegant and auspicious design with “Onagadori” resting its wings and perched on a plum tree which in full bloom.
